"Scientists are using carbon tests on plants found in the rock to determine its exact age, Hawass said."

It appears from this that the Egyptians are playing the media to get coverage. The expedition is conducting a range of radiometric tests to determine the age, starting with carbon tests like 14C and AMS to rule out/determine a relatively recent age.

Whatever the result, this is going to be a unique find in the context of Eastern Saharan archaeology.

Thanks Mikey, for this interesting lead onto a new discovey.

I've done some "Google research" on thi subject, most of it is a pure copy of the Reuters message, but one of them is a blog with some comments that seem to make sense and a nice picture of the footprint.Click here for more

This blog also contains a link to an Anthropology.net comment which cautions the readers about the footprint images circulating on the internet...Click here for more

I hope that there will be some links to more scientific piblications soon...

Hi guys.

The footprint shown in the first link Paul provided looks suspiciously similar to the Glen Rose "footprint" found in Cretaceous strata, in central Texas:

Thanks Charlie,

Your info is extremely useful.

Those two images must indeed come from the same footprint, the overall shape is identical and the cracks on the stone are exactly at the same place with the same shapes... Hence the probability that they could come from two different footprints is extremely low...

Yours sincerely.

Yeah, it appears they were just using the Glen Rose "track" as an example. I've tried to find the Egyptian track online, but it doesn't appear to be released yet.

Respectfully,
