It is very sad that earlier lack of knowledge on the risks brought by to high a frequentation lead to such a disatrous outcome. Let's hope that biologists will find a cure to that problem. Noting though that we won't know for sure its efficiency over the milleniums to come...
Just a piece of information, in addition to Lascaux II, there are other high quality reproductions of some beautiful Lascaux paintings in the "Le Thot" museum, located near Thonac, a small village about 7 km out of Montignac (
http://www.best-of-perigord.tm.fr/sites/semitour/anglais/thot_uk.html), It is in the direction of Les Eysies de Taillac. That last place is where the recently restored French National Prehistoric museum is installed.
Of particular interest in "Le Thot" museum is a magnificient reproduction of the famous scene of the Well scene (some times refered as the Dead man scene) and a reproduction of the Lascaux Deers group where the terrain is apparently used to emulate the water when deers are crossing a river.
These two paintings are not featured in Lascaux II
