"This July, Jacques Cinq-Mars, a renowned archeologist living in Longueuil, is heading to Beringia - a vast territory that once spanned the Yukon, Alaska and Siberia - in hopes of resolving a controversy he unleashed nearly 20 years ago when he chanced upon a curious-looking cave in the Yukon's Keele Mountain Range, perched on a ridge high above the Bluefish River."

Regarding the bone points, last week I saw a CT scan of a bone point that that had penetrated through living bone. Apparently those bone projectile points have even better penetration than stone points. CSFA is conducting the study and I am sure something will be published shortly.

Hi Jacques -

Congratulations on the funding.

Those bone tips may explain why the Good (Mind) Spirit and Bad (Mind) Spirit fight each other with antlers in the most ancient Iroquoian traditions. Now if I could only figure out what they meant by "flags", and why they should fight with them, the tales might make even more sense. Perhaps they were used for some kind of netting, or trap covers.

Bone tips makes a fascinating topic for contemplation. One wonders when they were first developed, and the time span of their use. They would have provided independence from quarries as well, and changed the landscape for early man.

Good hunting and safe travels,
