Archaeology of Ancient Australia by Peter Hiscock,Routledge,London,@008
Hiscock contends that there was considerable diversity among prehistoric Australians. The massive number of fatalities [ca 80?%]
among the indigenous populations during the 18th and 19th centuries,as a result of European diseases [ie;small pox],altered their life styles and some cultural traditions were lost.He believes that the past should not be reconstructed from social concepts, which post date 1789ADE,and that Australia cultures were not static for 50Ka.
Although there are contentious passages [a common occurrence in prehistoric Australian texts],the book has considerable merit.
