To all:

I just discovered how to add little pictures to identify yourself.  I really like that feature!  Thanks!  And in case you hadn't noticed, I'm a woolly mammoth now(I suppose I could have been a woolly rhinoceros, but that just didn't seem quite right).

The new background causes some monitors to flicker, the effect of the fine lines I think. Doesn't bother me at home, but I was startled when I saw the page on a cheaper 17" monitor.

BTW Opera handles this site very well and is very fast, although I did have a little trouble getting logon to work with it this morning.  I couldn't get permission to edit my profile or compose a reply.

I'm using Opera, and I'm having no problems with the site at all -- it is really slick!

If the "slickness" you are talking about has to do with the Forum, you are certainly welcome to share your enthusiasm with as many of your colleagues as possible!

What did you expect? The PALANTH site has been designed, programmed, and tested by taking into consideration what you might call basic and standard 2002 (communication) capabilities, and not the lowest technological common denominators.

Good luck.

Peace

This "logon" problem has been brought up a few times by various people. The best way to deal with this -- after having gained access to the site and having done whatever meets your fancy -- is simply not to log out, when leaving the site and going back to reality. There is really no need to do so. The default setting when you log in is "forever", which means that whenever you click on http://www.palanth.com/forum/, you end up having immediate, permanent, and functional access.

I like the way this program records the number of readers each topic has attracted vs the number who respond.  Mike be a way to make this meaningful later on down the line.

And thanks to the person or persons who changed the background to grey and white. Much easier to read.

Jois:

I like that feature too.  And I, too, mentioned that I thought the gray and white background was a lot easier to read.  Any light colored background would have been good, too(e.g beige and dark brown if you like colors, or cream colored and some dark colored print, just to name a few possibilities).  Of course my bias is, I like to be kind of "artistic", but since this is an academic forum, I guess it's better to be decorous.

A clear demonstration that "de gustibus, non disputandum est".

Jacques Cinq-Mars, well, actually, Cicero.
