All,

The last issue of PALEO - Revue d'archéologie préhistorique (PALEO No. 14 - December 2002) has now been in circulation for a little while. The "Revue"is published annually by the SAMRA, i.e., the "Société des Amis du Musée National de Préhistoire et de la Recherche Archéologique (Les Eyzies - France).

This recent, 286 page long, volume contains a wealth of very well presented and illustrated information dealing with a broad range of topics that should be of interest to anyone with an eye for South-Western Europe Palaeolithic issues and ongoing research. Here is a brief (selective) summary of the content:

Bertan, P. and A Lenoble … on site formation and taphonomy;

Bourguignon, L. & al. … on Mousterian spatial organization at the “La Folie” site;

Foucher, P. & al …on the Coustaret Solutrean workshop;

Marks, A.E. & al, … on the Middle Pleistocene cave site of Galeria Pesada (Portugal);

White, R. …on the new “Venus des Milandes”;

Henry-Gambier, D. …on the (re)dating of the Les Eyzies-de-Tayac Cro-Magnon remains;

Maureille, B. … on the rediscovery of the Moustier 2 Neanderthal neonate;

Orschiedt, J. … on the dating of human remains (thought to be Aurignacian) from La Rochette site;

Etc.

This shoud wet the appetite of some of you.

Jacques Cinq-Mars

PS   Given time, I will try to come up with more detailed information on two or three of the above; these will be posted in their appropriate threads.
