Chauvet Cave -- Recent publications.

Following a serious computer crash and in the midst of an obligatory, major computer/system upgrade -- with all that implies -- I found a little window of opportunity to let you know about two new publications I have just received yesterday morning from the Éditions du Seuil. They are:

Gély, Bernard et Marc Azéma. 2005. Les Mammouths de la grotte Chauvet., 115 pages. Paris: Éditions du Seuil.

Clottes, Jean et Marc Azéma. 2005. Les Félins de la grotte Chauvet., 125 pages. Paris: Éditions du Seuil.

I’ll have more to say later about the content, but, for the time being, I’ll just note that these richly illustrated books should be well received by all. I don’t doubt that translations in various languages are soon to follow.

In the meantime, here are (attached) two pertinent visual “teasers”.

Unfortunately my French isn´t very good, so I will better hope an wait for an english or german version. If I receive such informations first, I will post them here.

You're welcome. I have sent a request for info (to the SEUIL people and to one of the authors). If and when I get a reply, I'll pass it on.

As for the computer system, it is definitely -- as of this morning -- getting to be more functional.

The answer from the Seuil is that there are no plans to have these books translanted at present time. The good news (I think) is that it is just a marketing "wait-and-see" attitude. It will all depend on the initial sales of the original french versions and, given the quality of these books and the well established Chauvet Cave profile, I don't doubt that "management" will soon realize that it should go for the larger english market.

First...yes, you are right, my name is commonly written with accent, because its the frensh version of the greek term.

And second...if there will  only be a frensh version of that books rightnow I will wait for an english version - I hope they will release it. But I will also try to find them in a library, so I can already have a look into the books.

First...yes, you are right, my name is commonly written with accent, because its the frensh version of the greek term.

I am sorry to say, but I just received confirmation from Jean Clottes that there are no plans on the part of the Seuil to come up at this time with English versions of these books.
