Oh dear!  That is really sad, because Wymer was one of the "giants" in his field.  He will be missed.  BTW, Andrew Sherratt also died today(he was an archaeologist  whose main work was on the spread of farming, I think).

Yes, I agree with your high opinion of John Wymer and his contributions.  I was aware of  the death of Andrew Sherratt, but I'm much less familiar with his work.  In any case, Kris Hirst reported this a few days ago, and I've stolen the link to Sherratt's obit from the About.archaeology.com site.
